It’s been kind of a slacking week here even though there has been plenty of news to reports. Not so much that I’ve been lazy, but a little busy and wore out from my body’s reaction to a reduced caffeine and nicotine free diet as well as getting back in to a killer workout routine. Something had to give and unfortunately this blog was on the receiving end of that. Here are some things that happened this week in the world of MMA.
WEC fans voted the Miguel Torres Vs. Yoshiro Maeda the fight of the year for 2008 and aired Best Of 2008 on December 28th. I love seeing Torres fight. When I first saw this guy fight and saw the reverse mullet and how skinny he was, I wasn’t sure what to expect. He’s such a skilled fighter in the way that he takes his time and picks apart his opponent. During this fight when both fighters were in ankle locks I was sure one of them would tap but no tap ever came. Great fight!
UFC 94 St Pierre Vs Penn final fight card has been named as follows: Thiago Silva vs. Lyoto Machida, Jon Joners vs. Stephan Bonnar, Dong Hyun Kim vs. Karo Parisyan, Clay Guida vs. Nate Diaz, Akihio Gono vs. Jon Fitch, Thiago Tavares vs. Manvel Gamburyan,John Howard vs. Chris Wilson, Christen Wellisch vs. Jake O’brien. This even will take place on Saturday, January, 31, live from Las Vegas, Nevada at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
Quinton Jackson pleaded guilty of reckless driving early this week for an incident that happened shortly after his loss to Forrest Griffin. He pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge as a plea bargain that will have him completing 200 hours of community service, Pay restitution and seek mental health therapy for the incident where he allegedly committed a hit and run evading police. Sentencing will be carried out on January 7th 2010 where his plea bargain terms will be evaluated and taken in to consideration.
Keith Jardine may be bighting Luis Cane at UFC 97 in April and Junie Browning is rumored to be fighting Cole Miller at UFC Fight Night 18 in April as well.
WEC is looking to add a Flyweight division to it’s line up of light weight classes. This is what sets WEC apart from most promotions. That and they are backed and owned by Zuffa, so that helps a lot too. Â
Lastly, we see Welterweight Carlos Condit return to the ring to take on Brock Larson to defend his title at WEC 39 on March 1st. HIs last title defense was against Hiromitsu Miura back in August. Condit has such a cockiness about him and that face he makes before his fight kills me but you can not deny that he’s a great fighter. Brock Larson is no slouch though either so this fight should be interesting. Condit beat Larson by submission last time they fought in August of 2007.
